About AED
Alpha Epsilon Delta, the only national pre-health honor society, was founded in 1926 at the University of Alabama and is currently one of the 57 members of the Association of College Honor Societies.  The primary objectives of AED include promoting the pursuit of scholarly excellence, establishing a network among pre-health students and health educators and professionals, and creating opportunities for personal, intellectual, and professional development. AED serves to prepare students for a life of service.

The Boston University Massachusetts Gamma chapter of AED was established in 1979.  Members of BU's chapter of AED have organized and participated in social events, informational series, and volunteer projects each school year.  These activities have been organized in order to foster a sense of community for the students in AED, to promote pre-health careers, and to benefit the greater Boston community.

The main social event for AED members has been yearly induction dinners.  These dinners have been great opportunities to get to know the other members of AED and to try out some great restaurants in Boston!

In providing resources to its members and non-members interested in the health-related professions, AED has invited current medical school students and residents to speak about their experiences and answer questions regarding academic and career choices.  This past March, AED helped the other on-campus pre-health student groups launch the third annual Health Week.  The speaker series enlightened many on the diverse issues facing the field of medicine and public health.

AED is known for its annual auction of MCAT classes.  Last year, representatives from Kaplan, Princeton Review, and Examkrackers test preparation companies had each donated a course.  They also came and talked with Boston University students about preparing for the MCAT, before launching the auction.  It should be noted that the Kaplan and Princeton Review classes auctioned could have been redeemed for any of the graduate school entrance exam preparation courses that the two companies offer, including MCAT, LSAT, DAT, GRE, GMAT, OAT, etc.

Volunteer projects that AED has participated in include the Boston Medical Center Toy Drive, BMC "We Care Walk", BMC Halloween Town, and the Earth Day Charles River Cleanup.  Our members have come together embracing the values of helping others and have established AED to be more than just an honor society - it is a service organization.
