Research Scientist position is available in laboratory of Dr. Vladimir Pravosudov
to work on an NIH-funded project focused on the effects of social environment on memory, hippocampal structure and neurogenesis in mountain chickadees.
Work will involve trapping chickadees in the field, performing memory tests in laboratory, and brain sectioning and analyses. This position is available for three years and it will reside within the Department of Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Preferred start date is June-July 2007.

Post-Doctoral Position at Indiana University, Department
of Psychological and Brain Sciences:
A post-doctoral position (2yrs) is available through
our NIH-funded Training Grant in
developmental studies, and I am seeking a candidate interested in working
with Dr. Jeffrey R. Alberts. This
position must be filled with a qualified person by March 2007, so candidates
should already have the Ph.D. or will complete it by that date.
There are excellent opportunities at Indiana University.
The ongoing research program in his lab is united by a theme of the development
of species-typical behavior in rats and mice. We are increasingly studying
mice and are poised to begin using selected mutants and genetically engineered
animals. Within the broad topic of behavioral development, most of the
on-going work involves the onset and development of social behavior,
organizational aspects of individual and group behavior, mother-offspring
relations, as well as a project in pre- to postnatal adaptations. We are
also engaged in some new developmental studies of oxytocin and vasopressin
effects, using enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) and autoradiography. The local
research environment encourages novel approaches and integrating diverse
interests. Facilities are excellent and are expanding enormously for molecular
neuroscience.
Due to the timeline of funding, it essential that
potential candidates contact him immediately so the position can be secured..

Postdoc / Research Associate / Technician
Behavioral, endocrine, and molecular regulation of communication signals
in electric fish
Dept Biological Sciences, Florida International
University
Open until filled. Available immediately.
A Postdoc / Research Associate position is available to participate in
an NIH-funded study of neuroendocrine mechanisms by which the social environment
alters regulation of communication signals. Gymnotiform electric fish
regulate and modulate the masculinity of their social signal waveforms
using receptors for serotonin, melanocortins, and androgens. We work at
many levels, including behavioral ecology in the field, whole animal neuroendocrinlogy,
in vitro electrophysiology, and molecular biology of receptor expression.
Our goal is to understand how changes in the social environment direct
changes in sex differences and
circadian rhythms of communication signals, and how these processes evolved.
Qualifications:
Experience with or keen desire to learn basic skills of neuroendocrinology
and molecular biology, facility with a variety of measurement instruments,
excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability
to work cooperatively in interdisciplinary teams, as well as to work independently
on research projects. You
must be available to visit the lab for an in-person interview at a reasonable
expense to us.
Funding is available through March 2008, pay commensurate
with qualifications and experience. Full Florida State health insurance
and retirement benefits are available.
